These tend to be on a larger scale than other work. I often feel I need the space for the painting to evolve. I often return to familiar places as they are always changing with the seasons, the tide, after a storm, or on hot hazy days when there is a hint of a storm later.
These paintings are built up from a small sketch and then transferred to the canvas with free brush strokes to retain a sense of energy. They can take several weeks or sometimes months to complete so I work on two or three at once.
